So I’m reading about all the apple sales dropping and a multitude of people saying that the iPhone is hitting its innovation ceiling etc …some of it is most lightly true but here is my take on this situation and why we are getting to this point where others are catching up to Apple and Apple can not leap forward at a faster pace.

There are many factors that make a perfectly balanced product some are design which automatically restrict how much you can put into a product others are technical which involves the advancement in chip manufacture and others tech to put into your computer and there is of corse simplicity of use which is a combination of the first two .

This is Apples key knowledge it’s what they have done best for many years. So what’s holding them back.
The biggest problem by far is advancements in battery technology which has not seen any serious advancement for the last 10-20 years

No matter how fast your main computer chip is or what great new retina screen you want in your laptop you are at a stand point if the battery drains in a few hours . how has the tech industry dealt with this massive power restriction?

Advancements in Processor chips have mostly been going the way of smaller chips making then able to run on lower power rather than more powerful chips which eat power. This has directly been due to the non innovation of battery storage. The power draw has to be low as batteries are not storing any more power than they already to.

If you can shrink the size of a computer chip it will naturally use less power due to its size. This smaller chip using less power to do the same job makes a laptop battery last longer and with this additional power save from the smaller power hungry processor chip; Apple is able to add more clever gizmos like haptic touch or a back lit keyboard to use that additional power saved but the battery is the same as its always been . Every thing is working around the fixed power constraints in such a tiny laptop size.

Apple is relying on power savings to add advancements to its computers and phones because the battery tech is not evolving and continues to only hold the charge it has with not improvement. There is no additional power being stored its just power being saved from smaller processing chips drawing less of it and allowing other items to use that reclaimed battery power.

I would say it was Apple driving intel to make lighter powered chips because Apple wants smaller designs and the only way to do that is to make the chips as small as possible so they run on less power.

The poor old battery technology is the biggest bottle neck to innovation because you can not get any more power in to it and so it determines everything else (size of battery needed for a full day vs power drain by components)
so every time apple make a laptop computer or iPhone its the battery form factor that determines how much tech can be achieved in the size of the device.

intel have to put all their R & D into shrinking their chips to run more efficiently so there is additional power left over for Apple to add new tech like force touch or retina displays.

The public are relying on intel to make more powerful chips but they are just making chips more power efficient . so we don’t feel the speed increments just additional Apple ideas being crammed into a smaller unibody.

Apple is stuck until batteries hit a new invention of smaller battery size but with more power storage.

once battery tech has taken a leap so everything in the mobile computing world will advance in leaps again.

Any one could add tons of new tech to a laptop that had a bigger battery but who wants a massive laptop or mobile phone ?

Until the battery advances we are all stuck in the current computing world. just squeezing smaller lower powered chips on the same old batteries to get a little more out of a maxed out form factor leaves Apple at the tip now and everyone catching up.

tech is now running at a snails pace for big user innovation because everyone is stuck with accent battery tech Apple continues to just squeezing as much milage out of it while they wait for a battery break through. intel continue to shrink the chips incorporate additions like the graphics you had before on a separate chip but now its inside the main chip just to lower the power use and allow the battery to keep its power for other new things .

You can not blame Apple totally for this situation
it’s battery tech thats holding the whole tech industry at this point. when someone over comes battery storage limitations everything will explode with tons of new and cool additions that have the power to actually work in the real world usage.

Apple is micro managing power in their devices to get the most out of them but other computer and phone companies are all but now caught up with Apple and their refinements to the power road block.

I don’t blame Apple for the wows of the current portable devices because it’s a road block thats out of Apples control but ..

The only real issue I have and something that needs to be addressed pronto by Apple is the Mac Pro.

Apples decisions on the Mac Pro took design over substance.

The Mac Pro has never relied on batteries to restrict its ability to church numbers. It’s supposed to run as fast and as powerful as it can with no power restrictions that batteries have.

The Mac Pro could have been so much more than it is currently but Apple choose design over truly meaning full expandability. This continues to be a big mistake. The true geeks are the ones that sway the rest in tech.

A Pro user working on Apples products is in a similar halo as a famous designer or super star in any popular field.

When it comes to great advice and if geeks are Applelites then they can move the masses into Apples eco system and Apple can continue to grow in other ways while they wait for the battery crisis to be fixed.Apple is the Geeks who use Apple to create great music , art and movies

Designers, editors and musicians are the foundations of Apple success. These are the people everyone goes to for geek advice and in many ways have more say in the world of computing and tech than any super star doing a hey Siri advert.

Apple have forgotten this and that needs to be address..Apple need to re-visit the iconic adverts many of us apple geeks live by.

We are the dreamers the misfits the people that will change the world …think different… We are the Core that proliferates through everything , music , design, innovation, we are the geeks that truly love Apple. The public might be the majority who make Apple the big money but they are fickle and unreliable in loyalty.

I just Hope Apple make best Mac pro ever on the next cycle and then let us geeks create the best music on a Mac, the best designs , on a Mac, the best art, on a Mac … our geeky message is the beginning of everything so let us get your message out

..Right now many are considering moving to the dark side of a hotch botch PC where all the right expansions are possible ..don’t sit by and watch this happen Apple because the carpet is about to be pulled from under your feet..
